My Darling:

Was quite pleased today with
the Mail-Man – had 5 letters – one from
you – one each from Mom, Sam, Ann &
Fr Rank – they were all dated March
2nd – quite a coincidence – Am
especially looking for your letters -
because I’m kind of worried – it isn’t
everyday that one’s going to be a Pop!
Ma wrote a very nice letter – assuring
me that all would be well – she said
that Pa saw you recently 0 however
you never mentioned anything about
it – maybe there’s another letter telling
all about it – will have to wait
and see – I Love You Peg Honey!

Am all excited again - hope

1945-03-19_Page_2

it isn’t a dry run! I’m getting a
bit impatient – Just nine days till
the Baby’s due – and the chances are
getting mighty slim!  I Love You!

It’s raining out – we’ve had
some pretty nice weather till now-
first rain for quite some time!

Hope you’re well Peg Honey -
and I Pray that all goes well for
you! Goodnight & God Bless you
Honey!

I Love You!

England yet!

My Darling Sweetheart:

Have been counting off the
days till Baby comes – and each day
I’m getting a little more nervous – having
just loads of time to think – naturally
it’s getting me.  Sure hope & Pray that
everything is O.K. – and if the Baby’s
born by now I hope it’s healthy &
that you’re O.K.!!  Wish I knew just
what was going on – guess I’ll have
to wait & see for myself!  I Love
You Peg Honey!

Pretty good news again – but
won’t stop writing this time until
I’m on my way – no use disappointing
both of us!  But – I’m hoping &
1945-03-18_Page_2 really praying that it won’t be a
dry run like last time – I Love You
Darling!

Haven’t been doing a heck of a
lot – there’s nothing mych to do – could
write letters I guess – but am a little
too lazy – the weather’s been perfect -
spring is really in the air – and
I’m recovering true to form – to lazy
to even move.  I’ll really be in
a mess when I get out of the
Hospital – what a live this has
been – just eating & sleeping!  At
first it was rough but after four
months I’ve decided it’s the best
job in Army! Have just started
feeling like myself around the
stomach – that appendix beat the

1945-03-18_Page_3

heck out of me! Guess I’m a weak
sister – but having my leg operated
on just two weeks before had me
down a little – Did I tell you
that I was awake during the
appendectomy?  Had a spinal – quite
the thing!  Well I’m feeling well
now so what’s the diff – a hundred
years from now I’ll never know it
happened I Love You!

Well Peg Darling goodnight
& God Bless You!

I Love You Honey!
Love & Kisses

give Joanie or Johnnie a Big Kiss for me!

My Darling Wife:

Am Quite worried about you-
guess I’m getting scared or something – but
gee I wish I knew just how you are -
and if everything is O.K. – I Love you
so Darn Much Honey that all would be
lost if something happened to you. More
than likely by the time this letter
reaches you the Baby will no longer
be an “it”- but rather another Brey-
Wrote home & told Ma to tell me
whether it looked like a Polack or an
Irishman! Am really excited over
it – am just hoping & Praying that
all goes well and that we’re all
together shortly—It’ll be a gaff if
I don’t get to change it’s pants a couple
of times anyhow – or do you think I’ll
Change My Mind?  I Love You Honey!

1945-03-16_Page_2 The war news is certainly encouraging.
everything seems to be going pretty
well according to plan – I especially
like these Peace Rumors – one of these
days it’ll be the real McCoy – what
a wonderful day that’ll be! I Love
You Peg Darling!

When you write to Lloyd tell
him I have a personal grudge against
the Air Corp – I’d be on my way home
now if it wasn’t for them! Always
like the ground better anyhow!
Will really enjoy that trip homeward
when & if it comes – shouldn’t
say if cause someday it will come
true – what I mean is in the near
future! I Love You!

Was sorry to hear that Alex’s
Cousin lost a leg – I saw him
when he was hit – but didn’t

 1945-03-16_Page_3

think it was that bad!  Guess old
Chess is still going – I should write
him a letter – but don’t know whether
he’s still with the outfit or not – they’ve
really gone thru hell and there’s very
few original ones left – by the way
I was the first of the original company
to get it – couse there wasn’t to
many left the the time we came over!

Well my Darling I’ll sign
off for tonight – God Belss You!

I Love You Honey
Love & Kisses

Hope the baby’s
well – has it
curly hair? (What a question!)

My Darling Peg:
Another night – how I wish I could be home with you. Just sit around and talk & stuff – there’s so much to talk about – but I know from experience I’ll forget 9/10 of it when I do get there – am really anxious to see our Baby – had always hoped to be with you before it was born – but as things go it just won’t be – and there isn’t a heck of a pile we can do about it. I will sure be swell when I get out of this damn Army – when we make plans to go somewhere there won’t be a weeks delay – we’ll just take off – and there’s a million and one other things. I’ll be so wonderful just being with You & Baby! I

Love you Sugar!
Should be writing to a lot of people I owe letters too – but just can’t seem to make myself do it. Guess I’m lazy or somepin eh? I Love You!
Really did a pretty good days work today – were housecleaning the ward - and from top to bottom it’s getting a scrubbing. I Love You!
Am feeling well – and don’t worry about me cause I’m healthy as a bull.
Hope you’re feeling well – and if the Babies here give it a little kiss for me. God Bless You Darling!
I Love You!
Love & Kisses

Hope all is well!

My Darling Wife:

Am having quite a time
getting myself to write lately – guess
the disappointment of not getting home
before the Baby is born sort of got
me – but this is the time I should
be writing more – cause even if I
don’t get home you’re going to have the
Baby and that should be the time
when you should get stacks of mail!
I Love you Honey! Had quite a
dream last night – as you know the
fact that you’re having the Baby and
all has been foremost in my mind
for quite some time – it finally
exploded in a dream – it was
1945-03-14_Page_2 really wonderful – I was home
pacing the floor and all – but I never
did get to see you & the Baby – it
surely seemed real – I was in a
sweat when I woke up – Honey
it’s really tough being away from
you – but still tougher knowing what
you’re going thru – would really
give a lot to be home with you
now – I know there isn’t much that
I could do to help – but it would just
be that feeling of security. Guess I’ve
seen a little too much for my own
good – I just hope this deal that’s
on now doesn’t fizzle all together -
it would really knock me for a loop -
I’ve built my castle up a little too
high!  I Love You Mommy!

Am feeling well Honey – and
everything is going O.K. so far – it’s

1945-03-14_Page_3

just a matter of getting out of here &
homeward – I Love You!

Four months today that Ole
was killed – time really has flown
by!  Honey you asked about a bunch
of the fellows – well it just can’t be
answered – there’s quite a bit to be told
but not by mail – guess there still
censoring the stuff – that Middle
Man is still around – and that is
really one of the worst things about
being overseas -

Well My Darling goodnight
and God Bless You!

I Love you Loads!
Love & Kisses Mom!

My Darling Peggy:

Don’t know whether I should be
writing tonight or not Honey caus I’m
really lonesome & disgusted – but there’s
no better shoulder in the world to cry
on but yours – so hear goes – as you
probably suspected I had high hopes of
leaving here for home last week – In
fact Wednesday was the day – I was
so confident of leaving that I quit
writing & just waited – well today
they come along & say it’s cancelled -
the bottom of the world dropped out
for me – now I’ll have to sweat
out a new shipment – & things there
aren’t too bright – It’ll probably end
1945-03-13_Page_2 up with not going at all – it’s really
discouraging after so long – 4 months
today – of course I’m really lucky being
back here sleeping between white sheets –
good food & all – but after a while even
that isn’t enough – guess a person is
never satisified – eh?  I Love You
Peg Darling!

’Spect that by the time this reaches
you the Baby will be borne – be sure
and send a cable-gram – as I’m
liable to still be here. – Sure hope
everything goes well for you! I
Love You Monny!  Love your Pa?

Got Paid today – have a little
more than $115 – don’t know whether
to send it to you or what – guess
I’ll have to wait a week & see what
1945-03-13_Page_3 happens – hope I can accompany it
home!! I Love You!

Can’t see why the W.D. says
I was hit in the thigh – It couldn’t
be any closer to the knee – right smack
in it – I am getting around without
crutches – not to wonderfully – but
good enough – everything that can
be done is done – and it’s jsut a
matter of time now – am feeling swell!

Well Darling goodnight & God
Bless you!

I Love You Honey!
Love & Kisses
Johnnie

Keep Praying hard that I get home!

I Love You!

Give our baby a big smack for me!

It really was a happy day for me –

hope & Pray you don’t have to hard
a time! I Love You Darling!
Am a wee bit nervous tonight –
shouldn’t’ really be writing – but just
 1945-03-05_Page_2 I Love You!
will never understand why we
never had any Cablegram Services.
Guess our moves are always going
to be secretive – that is as to when
we leave & when we arrive! So
Honey in case you thought that I
never sent you word because of
my own negligence you’re wrong –
I couldn’t! I Love You Darling!
Darling will close for tonight –

names of the people or place we
were – but it was wonderful!

Darling:
Just finished taking a bath –
which instead of making me feel
good has me itching all over – must
have been the soap! (Time out for
a scratch!). I Love You!
Gee I’ve been so lonesome for
you all day – surely hope I get
going from here soon – and in the
right direction! Received a couple
of letters from you today – dated
Feb 9th & 12th – Honey You sound
a bit disheartened – try and keep
you’re Chin-up – I know it’s hard
with having our baby & all – but
Honey we’ve got to keep our spirits
high no matter what! I Love You
Honey!

I Love You Hon!
Am counting the days till our
Baby comes – It’s going to be awful
close to an Easter baby – sure hope
everything will go well Honey –
Am praying for you each day –
I Love You Honey!
Had a letter postmarked Jan 2nd
today – such beautiful Mail
Service we have around here – hope
I get some new ones tomorrow – I
enjoy them all no matter how old –
but there’s that feeling of warmness
when you get a letter only a few
days old instead of months! I
Love You Peg Honey!
The war news is really good –
hope it ends over here soon – and

  1945-03-01_Page_3

I Love You Hon!
really believe it will – can’t
see how these Jerries keep going –
Our planes sure blast hell out
of them – I really had a show
when near Metz – 1300 of our
planes gave the Jerries a going
over – it was great!
Well Darling goodnight &
God Bless You!
I Love You Honey!
